It is not a riveting read, but it is intended to provide you with the full story of how and why you should either fully subscribe or become an occasional user if you are involved in running a quiz night. Pubquiz.biz is designed for ease of use by quizmasters, publicans and others who hold regular and/or occasional quizzes. We have calculated that you can save around £700/$1,100/AUD2,000* per year by using pubquiz.biz for your weekly question supply. (See costs compared further down this page). Pubquiz.biz is not designed for those who need large numbers of questions at one time or for those who want questions on a specific theme, except perhaps football/soccer! If you need loads of questions or questions on specific themes please go to Services. Pubquiz.biz has a built in limit of 160 questions per week. This should be enough for you to have 2 quiz nights per week. You could, for example, have 60 mixed categories on a Monday and 60 Pop-music on a Thursday. At present the quiz material is targeted for a UK audience but has proved to be very popular with most English-speaking audiences across the globe. If you and, more importantly, your audience are outside the UK, we recommend that you consider selecting questions from the General Knowledge, International, Pop and Movie categories and Picture Quiz. As demand increases and feedback determines, we will introduce distinct categories to reflect country specific demand. This will also be reflected in the currencies accepted. There are four types of pubquiz.biz user, please click here for the bullet pointed list of benefits for each. There is Basic, Occasional ., Promotional. and Full Registration. If you run quizzes, at least one of these will suit your needs perfectly. Whether you run two or three quizzes per week or per year, our purpose is to provide you with access to a database of guaranteed, reliable, well researched, professionally written and topical questions and answers for a pub or bar type quiz night. If you have regular quiz nights and opt for full registration, we also advertise both your pub and your quiz night/s free of charge - see pubquiznights.co.uk. or Promotional registration. Your access to the question database should be available to you 24 hours per day, 7 days per week and 52 weeks a year and at a fraction of what it would cost you to source them elsewhere. With our question selection options you should easily be able to retain your existing style of quiz night, try out different categories of question and types of quiz for your quiz nights and, once established, retain your successful formula, with different questions, week after week. Providing that you select at least 40 questions, you automatically receive a free tiebreaker question and you can instantly print a customised answer sheet for each quiz you select. The benefits for occasional users For those who wish to test out our quiz material first, you can print off our FREE SAMPLE QUIZ KIT. If you are still not sure or you only have occasional quiz nights, you can pay just £5/$8/AUD14.4* to print out your selected quiz kit; our recommended weekly quiz kit or the current Special Quiz. (Full subscribers only pay an equivalent of £2.50/$4/AUD7.2* per kit and receive all of the other benefits listed above). Whether you run a pub or you are a quizmaster, if you run quiz nights, you need questions. As we also write so many TV quiz shows, we operate on the premise that your questions are in effect your script for the entertainment that is your quiz night. Make no mistake; a successful quiz night has to be both profitable for you and entertaining for your audience. Reliability, humour, interest and how current the question is, all contribute to the entertainment. If the night is entertaining, customers will return and bring friends, & You have a few options on how you get your script. Below we have explained, examined and compared costs for some of these options with surprising results:-
Figures assume 40-question quiz and picture quiz and are based on calculations explained below Buy a quiz book - Cost about £10pa (20p/week), preparation time = 0 if read straight from the book or about 1½ hours (40 questions or £6.30/quiz at £4.20/hr. This is the National minimum wage in the UK) if you select questions and write them down. Material from a quiz book makes for a very boring and predictable quiz night; quiz books are notoriously unreliable you will get a bad question or wrong answer and you have no recourse, you have no guarantees; the most recent questions must by definition have been written at least 2 months prior to publication and are therefore older than the book - (Who is & is invariably more interesting than, In July 1994, who was &); If players find out which book you use, (and they will if you read directly from it!) you are in trouble. This option may also be illegal (see the copyright conditions near the front of the book!). If you add a picture quiz you should add £3.15 (45 minutes at £4.20/hr) to the cost in terms of time and materials. Do It Yourself - If you are good, quick, have free reliable materials at hand and the time available, you might just get 40 original questions written in about 3hrs (or £12.60/quiz at £4.20/hr). Your particular strengths and weaknesses and the research materials you have will tilt the balance of your quiz. If you make a mistake, you will be blamed and yelled at, you will have to sort it out and it will probably ruin the nights entertainment. If you are not good at setting questions, the customers you do have for your quiz night will soon go elsewhere or remain at home. If you are not quick or do not have the materials at hand, the cost of quiz is much higher than £12.60, especially if other important duties are neglected. Again, if you add a picture quiz you should add £3.15 to the cost in terms of time and materials. Get a regular to write your questions - very similar problems (and costs) to doing it yourself. Even if you pay in pints it will still cost say 6 pints at £2ea. Don't forget the picture quiz! Subscribe to pubquiz.biz - 40 questions = £1+vat, add £0.21p (the time it takes to log on to the Internet, click your left mouse button 2 times, enter your password, click your left mouse button again and print out = 3 minutes at £4.20/hr) plus £0.50p for paper, toner, electricity, element towards computer, phone bill and Internet charges. This totals £1.71/quiz. All questions are written by professional question setters; verified by another setter; some Topical questions will have been written on the day you use them and, if you chose, you will have at least 10 questions relating to events, etc for the week of your quiz; your questions are guaranteed - if you or your customers are the first to spot and inform us of a mistake, we will credit your account with another 2,000 units (£50 worth); you have a choice of up to14 of the most popular categories for pub quizzes and all of the other benefits afforded to subscribers of pubquiz.biz (including a free dynamic web page on pubquiznights.co.uk). And the picture quiz! If you wish to add a picture quiz (we pay a licence fee in respect of all images used) it will cost you another whopping £1. The guarantee - To our knowledge this offer is unique. We are so confident in our team of setters, the accuracy of the material we write and the reliability of the sources that we use, that we can afford to challenge you and your customers to find fault. Inevitably, though extremely rarely, a human error can be made. Our systems of verifying questions nearly always spot the error before the question is entered onto our database. If a bad question or incorrect answer squeezes through our screening process, we would clearly like to know about it. Because of the topical nature of some of our questions, any challenge must be made according to these rules and within 7 days of supply of the offending question. If you are the first to email us quoting, word for word, the actual question and/or answer that is wrong and provide the correct answer with two original sources supporting your claim, we will credit your account with 2,000 units (£50/$80/UAD144* worth of quiz material). If, however, your challenge is found to be groundless or if it is not within the 7 days and complete as described above, we reserve the right to deduct 200 units (£5/$8/AUD14.4*) from your total. This is to deter ill considered, frivolous or hit and hope challenges and reflects the research and administration costs associated with checking a question for no good reason. Well researched - For a question to be submitted to the pubquiz.biz database the originating and experienced setter has to establish and compose the question with regard to grammar and having only one possible meaning. They then have to supply one reliable and authentic source, which confirms the answer. The question is then critically evaluated by another setter/verifier who cannot see the answer supplied by the originator but can see the source. The verifier then checks through a different, but equally reliable, source for an answer. If both answers are the same the question and answer is accepted. If they are not the same the question is reworded to make it unequivocal or it is discarded. Once accepted, the question is again checked against the whole database to ensure that the same or similar question does not already exist. If it passes this final test, it is entered on to the database. Are you confident in your quiz material? We are in ours and you can see why! Professionally written - We have five experienced question setters compiling on a permanent basis, two of which have been compiling questions since 1984. In addition to this, we have a pool of at least 10 experienced freelance setters based as far and wide as South Africa, USA, Hong Kong, etc whose services and specialisms we call upon as demand determines. When the CVs of these setters are combined it effectively makes a list of virtually every quiz show that has been on TV in the UK. When you add together the years that they have been writing questions the total (in 2005) is 119 years! Furthermore, to inject some youth culture into our services we have a number of undergraduates contributing to origination and to complete the range of our questions, we even have arrangements with a number of primary schools (under 11 age group). Topical - The Topical category within your question options is unique to pubquiz.biz. Every day our setters scour news of events and announcements for relevant and interesting facts and ditties. These are not entered into our main database unless it is believed that they are likely to remain significant and interesting for the foreseeable future. We are unable to determine how many questions are generated in this category as we are at the mercy of the reporting of current events. We try to avoid anything, which might cause offence or be considered distasteful but we also try to add an average of 3 new questions per day. It is unlikely that we could have achieved this target for the week after the 11th September 2001!!! Due to these constraints it is not recommended that subscribers take more than 10 questions from the Topical category in any one week. If more than 10 questions are selected it is possible that you will repeat questions that you have had previously. In the event that your quiz nights (which include topical questions) are more than 4 weeks apart it is possible that you could select a whole quiz of questions based around the events of the previous 4 weeks. * Cost indicated does not include VAT where applicable. $ and AUD will vary according to exchange rates at the time of the transaction. |
